Legal protection against disclosure of information exchanged in confidence between parties in certain defined protected relationships. The intent is to foster honest, open communications by protecting these from disclosure during the course of a lawsuit.   Privileged communications include those between attorney/client, doctor/patient, priest/penitent, and husband/wife.
