On January 22, 2014, Zackery Lystedt received the 2014 Seattle Children’s Inspirational Youth Awards at the 79th Annual Seattle Sports Commission Awards held at Benaroya Hall. Congratulations Zack!
Zack was awarded this honor for his public awareness around youth sports and concussion. His law, The Zackery Lystedt Law, was the first in the nation law preventing preventable concussion in youth sports by requiring medical clearance to return to play by a licensed healthcare provider for student athletes suspected of having a concussion.
In October 2006, Zack sustained a traumatic brain injury in a middle school football game after receiving multiple concussions during the game. Zack was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center where he had multiple brain surgeries to stop the bleeding on his brain.
